I put together a very stunning mix of handmade beads from fair trade, developing communities throughout Africa. They are rare stones, ceramic, cloth, glass, and metals. You will find they have a worldly feel, whimsical and interesting!
•Info about the Recycled glass beads: These great beads are made by the Krobo People of Ghana, Africa. Powder glass beads are made by crushing glass to a fine powder and heating it so that the particles fuse together. The glass is then poured into clay molds, with a cassava leaf stem used to make the hole. They are baked in an oven and the glass fuses and the cassava stem burns up. This technique has been used in Africa for centuries. Bead Size: 14mm diameter
•Info about the black/white stripe beads: These are bona mala beads, fashioned in a special disk shape. Each of these bone beads was handcarved out of reclaimed cow bone in the mountainous regions of Nepal. Beads measure approximately 4-5 x 13mm.
•Info about the silver metal disk beads: Artisanal Ethiopian white metal beads. Individually fashioned by an expert craftsmen, these bicone beads measure 11-12x16mm
•Info about the large Gold Bead: round-shaped Ghana Brass Trade Beads from Africa. Each bead is made individually through the Lost Wax process technique.
•Info about the painted clay beads: Powder glass African beads, made by the people of Krobo Mountain in Ghana, West Africa. Many designs of Krobo beads are patterned to resemble old Venetian FANCY trade beads. Made from bottles and other glass items that are turned into powder, then poured into molds in order to create these round shaped beads. Decorations on the beads are made with a paste made of colored glass powder and water which is applied by hand using a thin wooden stalk. The beads are cooked a second time to fix the decor. Each bead is unique and will measure approximately 10-18 x 12mm.
